Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 5.5% of the population. The racial makeup of the county was 95.7% white, 0.3% black or African American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 2.7% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. There were 13,731 housing units at an average density of 28.5 per square mile (11.0/km 2). The population density was 71.5 inhabitants per square mile (27.6/km 2).
